so i know it's only the beginning of march, and the majority of people won't actually like these songs, but i felt the need to post them anyways. to bee, myself, and louise, sally, jenny and emily though, these songs are perfection personified.
i'll find links later.
1. true love way - kings of leon
- this song is just one of those songs that you can listen to literally 600 times in day. the lyrics are great and super catchy. i love it.
2. you only live once - the strokes
- i'm not sure if this song really needs an explanation. if this year was a movie i think that this would be the song in the ending credits. it's just such an upbeat song that you want to blast when you get home after a really great day.
3. MMMbop - hanson
- it's just a classic fun song. even if this mix cd is supposed to define our present content-ness, you can't really do that with out some really good oldies.
4. feel good inc - gorillaz
- ANOTHER amazing, upbeat song. probably one of the most random songs on this list, but that's exactly why it's so great. i could see bee and i just blasting this through her speakers on some random streets, bobbing our head. and any song like that definitely deserves a place on this list.
5. float on - modest mouse
- i'm pretty sure this is already on another playlist, but who really cares. it's probably one of my all-time favorite songs- that you can listen to when you're in a great mood and just want to boost that, or when you're in a horrible mood and just need something to help you get along. i think i want to play this song at my wedding.
6. war - edwin starr
- countless good times with this song. singing along to the beginning of the song and trying to sound like a man has got to be one of the most satisfying things to do. the lyrics are definitely pretty beasting, too.
7. here comes the sun - the beatles
- this another song that can cheer you up or just be a really amazing start to the day. it's perfect during random picnics on unusually warm days, too. it's pretty much impossible to not smile while listening to it, and having a song like that is definitely a necessity.
8. anyone else but you - the moldy peaches
- again, i did originally hear this song from the movie Juno, but it's a great movie so who really cares. this song reminds me of band practices with louise and just feeling like you're part of something. the voices are so understated too which makes it great to sing along with.
9. thriller - michael jackson
- why would we NOT have thriller on a magical cd?
10. banana pancakes - jack johnson
- for one, i am going to marry jack johnson. secondly, this is another song that you just connote with good times. namely making pancakes at sally's and swaying with the sun in your face, just being happy and content.
11. fluorescent adolescent - arctic monkeys
- another great, upbeat song, that just makes you feel young and ready for anything. plus, i don't think that we could have a magic mix with out at least one british band besides the beatles.
12. i'll make a man out of you - from mulan(the movie!)
- I ADORE THIS SONG. if you don't love it too you suck. it. is. BEAST.
that is all. :D
13. yell fire - michael franti and spearhead
- i think that this was also on another playlist, but oh well. this is one of those songs that you just randomly start singing, and feel extreme urges to hear at least once a week. it has a good meaning, too.
14. all the old showstoppers - the new pornographers
- when bee and i were sitting on the curb blasting music in fells point, this song came on and i could have sworn that we were in a movie. it's another one of my all time favorites, by one of the best bands out there. it just somehow makes you feel ready for anything.
15. the way i am - ingrid michaelson
- yes, this is the sweater song from that old navy commercial. but it's still great, and is something we all sing along even when we're not at her concert. definitely a lot of good times with this song.
16. love today - mika
- ANOTHER amazing song to listen to in the morning when you're getting ready for the day. it almost ensures that the day is going to be good. there's no one else out there like mika, either. the feeling this song gives you really just can't be described.
17. juliet - LMNT
- one of the first songs that we were all obsessed with in the beginning of the year. it's definitely not the best song out there, but the kind of memories attached to it(specifically singing it at the top of our lungs at louise's) are priceless.
18. with a little help from my friends - from the "across the universe" soundtrack
- this is basically the five of us in a nutshell. except minus the drugs and drinking, because we're honest to god naturally like that(it's almost scary). this is a song any really tight group of friends can relate to. the movie version is a little faster than the original(and joe crocker's cover. which is actually my favorite) which is good, and another great song to sing along with.
19. celebrate the summer - dj cammy
- HA! best ever. this is the number one song we listen to during our spur of the moment techno dance parties. and considering how much all of us want summer (which is a fucking LOT, mind you), this song just had to have a place on the cd.
20. my dick - mickey avalon
- i don't think this cd would be complete with out at least one rap song. so, of course, i decided to go with the dick song.
21. new soul - yael naim
- it's a good song to end with, because all of us have definitely encountered (and more than made the best of) new situations this year. we've all kind of melded into each other, and this song is a start to showing that.
