janvier musakk

so i haven't posted in a while.
i'm trying to make some more mash-ups, but nothing seems to be working quite right. i tried mixing "the cold part" by modest mouse, and "15 step" by radiohead, but it's not ending up how i want it to. so the challenge goes onnn. but in the mean time i'll probably get bored and find some classic ninendo tunes to use. donkey kong and the shins are calling my name.

BUT ANYWHO.

i'll get to the january playlist soon, but last wednesday we (well, bee couldn't. she was in DISNEY WORLD) saw ingrid michaelson at the recher. it was beyond beast. not only was her live voice just as good as her recorded one, but she was completely hilarious too. she talked to the crowd about bad 80's comedy shows, sang the fresh prince theme song, and went on about how the lights only look like fire but aren't. i just wish that i had gotten pictures or something, but none of us brought a camera. the picture at the top is from the concert, but it's just off my phone.

okay, so STOP! playlist timee.
EDIT: i added links to mp3s. :D ones that i could find, at least. the rest are youtube videos.

1. helicopter - bloc party
so bloc party has to be one of my favorite bands. you can almost always tell when a song is theirs just by the tempo and voice, but this song in particular has been cramming my ears this past month. the lyrics are hard to hear the first time around, but it'll grow on you. promise.
listen

2. overboard - ingrid michaelson
it's pretty obvious why ingrid has been stuck in my head, but her music is amazing any month. her lyrics are catchy but still manage to make sense. during the concert, she said that she got the idea for this song when she was in maine with a friend, canoing. her friend was going on about this fantasy of falling out of a boat, then a hunky-maine-man coming out of no where to save her. then is was just SHAZAM; lyrics.
watch (except i just want you to listen)

3. no other way - jack johnson
i know some people don't like jack johnson, but this has to be one of my favorite songs of at least the past four months. it's insanely calming, and you can interpret the lyrics in so many different ways. it's one of jack's slower songs, but i'm completely and utterly in love with it.
watch
there's the recorded version on his myspace, too.

4. loose lips - kimya dawson
i admit that i've only heard of kimya because of Juno(which is an amazing movie, if you haven't already seen it) but she's still supa fly. i wanted to go to a concert of her's a couple weeks ago, but missed it. apparently, she gave everyone hugs instead of signing autographs. jealousy.
listen

5. third planet - modest mouse
modest mouse has got to be one of my favorite bands of all time, but this song in particular has caught my attention this past month. i'm honestly not that sure why, but the jist is that you should listen to it.
listen

6. oh my - office
this is the only song i know by office, but it's completely addicting. something about the beat and instruments is just irresistible. the lyrics are a little odd, but check the song out anyways.
listen

7. reckoner - radiohead
radiohead may be an acquired taste for some people, but i adore them. this is another song that i can just listen to over and over again. it's hypnotizing almost, but in a good way. it's calming but doesn't delude you, if that makes any sense.
listen

8. don't panic - coldplay
there's just something about this song that just fits winter. i'm steadily getting worse at these descriptions i think. but anyways, it's just a really easy song to listen to, whether you're tired or not.
listen

9. i will survive - gloria gaynor
i don't know when this will not be a song of the month.
watch

10. 2000007 (feat. TTC) - modeselektor
i don't even know what's being said in this song, it's french, but mad addicting. french techno/rap. you can't really beat that.
watch (just listen though)

that is all.
:D
with pepper,
-julia.
