heres theee february playlist
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1. last stop: this town - eels
i've been listening to the eels a bit obsessively lately. they have such a wide array of stuff, from super-catchy beats to slow and beautiful (though depressing) songs. another thing i love about this band, is how mr. e writes about such terrible, depressing thoughts and pairs them with cheerful, upbeat music. im in love with all the songs by eels, but this one has been in my head especially lately.
listen to it.
2. baby, you're a rich man - the beatles
from "magical mystery tour" this is one of the most under-appreciated beatles songs. the music sends me back to my third grade days. jumping up and down on my bed singing the nonsense lyrics while the cd spun in my hello kitty boombox. not much has changed, i would say. :D
listen via youtube.
3. moonage daydream - david bowie
DAVID BOWIE. oh, david bowie. probably/definitely one of the coolest people alive. this is my mom's favorite song. i suppose it's genetic. just listen to it, listen to the lyrics. plus, it was the first song the white stripes recorded. this song is a godly.
musical orgasm right hurr.
quatro!. son of sam - elliott smith
this one will be on repeat for a few days. its one of those "theres something about it songs".
listennnnnn.
5. black beatles - loo & placido
i have a thing for mash-ups. this one is a mix of girl (the beatles), run for your life (the beatles), lets get it started (black eyed peas), caught out there(kelis), and some song by ludacris. it's realllly well-done and really catchy.
LISTEN.
6. israelites - desmond decker
desmond decker was just one of those outstandingly cool people who changed history. he's the kind of person you would choose to write a paper on for school and actually enjoy it. it made some pretty kickass music too.
7. 19 20 20 - the grates
this is one of those jump-up-and-down-shake-your-hair-songs. sounds kinda like the yeah yeah yeahs.
listen!
8. trains to brazil - guillemots
this was my first free itunes download of the week, a few years back. ever since then, its been on my top 25 most played.
listen.
9. maria - blondie
one of the best blondie songs in my opinion.
and your heart beats like a subway train.
10. brimful of asha- cornershop
so i found cornershop's "when i was born for the 7th time" (just in time for my recent obsession with indian culture and religion) hidden under some junk. and i've been listening to it consistently since then. its SO GOOD. this is the obvious pick off the album, since its the hit, but it really is a good song.
